Are you Emotionally Blocked?
Emotional blockages are a common defense mechanism against past hurt or pain. Humans are amazing, resilient creatures that are able to adapt to survive. We must be thankful for our protection systems, as they help us to survive what might have been lethal to us in terms of emotional pain in childhood.
The problem is that when we build walls, blocks, or shields to our emotions, we stop the flow of emotions necessary for healthy human evolution and connection (intimacy). Emotional vulnerability, or emotional intelligence, is about being in tune and in touch with your emotions. It’s about clearing the old blocks, washing away the old walls and shields, and letting the rainbow of color come through.
It makes perfect sense why our amazing systems would want to stop us from feeling painful emotions. We must honor and appreciate every single facet of our incredible beings (including old defense mechanisms). Still, with that honor, we must be aware of what is no longer serving us.
How to Tell if You Are Emotionally Blocked
Self-Expression = Happiness
These are just a few ways to tell if you have emotional blockages affecting your ability to emote and express yourself. If you cannot fully express yourself, it can lead to a life of quiet desperation. It can also lead to depressive states and a lack of feeling seen and heard. Expression is our way of showing the world who we are and what gifts we embody. If we are stunted in our flow of emotion, it can stunt our evolutionary process of healing and growing as a human.
This can significantly impact our ability to connect with ourselves and others. It could be easy to fall into a toxic way of thinking, making projecting, self-sabotage, and victim mentality so much more prevalent.
Our emotions are the waves that move, inspire, and fill us with love and joy. So many people are told or taught that emotions are wrong or need to be suppressed, unfelt, or pushed away. When we bury our emotions it can cause massive problems in our lives.
What Causes Emotional Blockages?
These are just a few ways emotional blockages can form. How we engage with ourselves and the world around us is unique to who we are and what we have learned. What wounds us is very much dependent on who we are as well. One way you can look at this is that the wounds we each get are our life lessons and are essential for us to experience so we can evolve. Some say our wounds are our greatest gifts, as they are the teachers to a more liberated and joyful life (if we properly feel, process, and learn the lesson. If we do not learn and adequately feel, we run the risk of the event, similar or otherwise, happening again).
How Does it Feel to be Emotionally Open, Vulnerable, or Intelligent?
Being emotionally open means you allow people to help and support you. You are in your body and can enjoy it. You can connect to the deepest parts of yourself and know how to set boundaries. Being in touch and in tune with your emotions means you do not dissociate and are present and in tune with others.
Awareness is the Key & Compassion for the Why
Now that you know if you are blocked and why, you can continue on the road of healing and awareness. Self-awareness is like opening up doors to the inner self. When you open doors, light allows you to see yourself. Once you can see yourself, you can have compassion for the why behind it all. Why you have blockages is very important; this will give you an idea of your needs and how to meet your own needs.
You have the key, and everything you need is already inside of you. You have the power and ability to completely change your life and start living the life of your dreams. Having compassion for ourselves starts the healing journey. If you have identified with having emotional blockages, here are some tips to heal and clear the blocks.
Self-Healing: Emotional Wellness and Spiritual Awakening
On this beautiful road to healing, there are quite a few ways you can heal yourself, or you can do it at a very affordable cost! One way is to start a journal about trust and emotions. Journal daily about your past, childhood wounds, and how you feel about the world around you daily. Use the journal to check in and express yourself. Use journal prompts to increase the trust of yourself, the Universe, and others. Use your journal to bring honor and respect to your emotions. Treat them as if they get a seat at the table with you. See and acknowledge your feelings, express where you feel blocked, and if you are noticing any triggers about a specific topic.
How to Begin Your Healing Journey
- Start learning about the Inner Child and Inner Wound work. This can be very helpful and impactful. I suggest reading as many books as possible about emotions and inner child work.
- Exercise is beneficial for releasing stuck emotions from the body. Getting your heart rate up, sweating, and breathing is a great release. I also like to use a foam roller to sit and melt into the deeper places of tension and stored trauma in the body.
- Meditation is an excellent tool for self-awareness. When you are in quiet contemplation or meditation, you experience presence and stillness, which allows you to observe and thus learn!
Other paid options for helping with clearing emotional blocks and trauma would be somatic healing sessions, such as Breathwork, Myofascial Release, and other bodywork. Yoga and movement can be great tools for opening up and getting the emotional body to process and release. SpiritQuest Sedona Retreats has many sessions that are specifically designed to assist a person with this issue. Check out our healing retreats for deep transformation. Thank you for taking the time to learn about your emotional systems, and we wish you all the best of luck on your healing journey.
